SEO is one of the most important areas of Online Marketing in my opinion. Google, for example, is the most visited site in the world according to Alexa.com. For this “simple” reason, investing in website optimization is extremely important, as there is no point in investing in quality content or a beautiful website, for example, if your reader or consumer cannot find them.
spam
In general lines, Keyword Stuffing stands for keyword spam. One of the rules for good optimization is that your keywords appear in several places on your site. However, there are those who exaggerate and insert the terms too much, which can, instead of helping, harm the performance of your site in search engines.
But how do I know if I'm doing it?
The excellent book by Martha Gabriel “SEM and SEO: Mastering Search Marketing” brings in chapter 5 a simple calculation that helps to know whether or not we are exaggerating the amount of keywords. The calculation to know if you are exaggerating the number of keywords in your texts is simple:
F=K/T
- F= Frequency
- K= How many times a word appears;
- T= Total words in the text
According to the author, a frequency between 3% and 8% is safe to prevent a search engine from considering your text as a Black Hat technique. As the search engines do not reveal the ranking rules of the sites, all SEO techniques are based on trial and error, in addition to many tests and some tips provided by the search engines, hence the estimate.
Add-on Tip for Chrome
To quickly find out if the number of keywords you are using is “safe”, I recommend (for those who use Google Chrome) the SEO Playground add-on. Just open a website, go to the add-on in the “Text/Words” options. It provides the number of times a word appears and already calculates the density of the word, that is, how many times it appears in relation to the total text.
In the case of this site that talks about eyebrows, the word “eyebrow” appears 15 times, with a density of 5,38%. This add-on is worth taking a look at, as in addition to the word count, it also offers a lot of insights into your site.
A good keyword density for any site can be used around 3%, thus avoiding problems with search engines.
